Detailed description of Picatinny Golf Club
Picatinny Golf Club, is a Military, 18 hole golf course located in Picatinny Arsenal US ARMY base in northern New Jersey.
The Picatinny Golf Club golf course first opened for play in 1921. The course was designed by A. W. Tillinghast.
Over the past 90 years the golf club has gone through a number of changes. Initially, the course was open to military officers only. Today. use of the course is open to active and rerired military of all ranks, honerably discharged veterans, DoD civilians, retired DoD civilians,Dod full time contractors, first responders ofMorris County and guests accompanied by authorized golfers.
Picatinny Arsenal Golf Course is a long, fairly flat layout. They offer four sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all ability levels.
The front nine is carved out of heavily wooded land and is very tight. Subtle doglegs on many of the par 4's and 5's force players to work their ball from side to side off of the tee.
The back nine, a slight contrast to the traditional design of the front, opens up slightly to give players a little more breathing room. A stretch of three holes (12, 13, 14) challenge golfers in the way of an Amen Corner or Bear Trap. Picatinnys feature hole is the par 3 16th which can stretch to 235 yards from the back tees. The Picatinny Arsenal Golf Course plays to 6,816 yards from the back tees. The course rating is 72.8 with a slope rating of 125. Par for the course is 72.

The Pic is a great course. Don’t get fooled by the easy look of holes 1 and 2. The front 9 is more isolated than the back 9 and for the most part you only see one hole at a time. I have found that the front plays harder than the back. The holes look inviting but they are tough. If you can take advantage of # 1 and 2 you should do it. The staff is great, friendly and will work with you. They add a great touch to a classic course. Only wish that the beverage cart would consistently drive from back to front 18, 17 16, 15 than drive up from behind you when you are hitting 1, 2, 3. If that is my only knock I am splitting hairs……….Great course, Great staff, have fun.

It's a little difficult to get on this course, but if you can it is well worth the effort. The staff is outstanding. The clubhouse is closed for renovations, but there is a place to grab a bite at the turn. The greens and fairways were immaculate. Overall, this course is a pleasure to play.

Front nine goes through woods which is nice but is risky for wayward hitters. Fundamental problem of course is that it is very low and stays too wet which really hurts the fairway conditions. Problems go uncorrected due to insufficient funds.
